A Base for Protecting the Ocean and Its Wildlife
Blue Life is a Justice for Nature project that provides a base for the direct protection of the ocean and coastal ecosystems in the Gulf of Santa Elena, Costa Rica.
What we do
We bring together hands-on fieldwork, research, monitoring, and education. We actively work to protect this area from the risks associated with unsustainable industrial exploitation and illegal activities that threaten marine life and its natural environment.
For us, ocean protection is more than an idea. It means working directly in the field.
Infrastructure for Nature Conservation
Ocean Center
Our Ocean Center serves as a base for Justice for Nature’s volunteer and research programs in the Gulf of Santa Elena area. It provides facilities and support for people involved in fieldwork, research, and the protection of local wildlife and ecosystems.
The center accommodates up to 12 people and provides the essential facilities needed to host volunteers and research teams.
In 2027, we also plan to open an information and education center to showcase the gulf’s natural richness and highlight the importance of protecting it.
The Spartan – Our Base at Sea
The Blue Life project also includes our monitoring vessel, The Spartan, which allows us to work directly at sea and carry out research, monitoring, and other field activities.
Its primary role in marine mammal monitoring and other research activities is presented as part of our Eye of the Ocean program.

Eye of the Ocean
Eye of the Ocean is our program focused on monitoring and researching marine mammals and collecting data essential to protecting their natural habitats. Our fieldwork takes place primarily at sea and combines collaboration with specialists, long-term monitoring, and documentation of marine life in the gulf.
Alongside research, we also develop volunteer programs, environmental education and outreach, coastal conservation activities, and initiatives that enable individuals and companies to support the protection of this area.
