Volunteers who create real change

The first volunteer program of this year in Costa Rica demonstrated the powerful impact a group of committed individuals can achieve. Over the course of three weeks, volunteers actively contributed to nature conservation, restoration of protected area infrastructure, and hands-on actions that have lasting value for local ecosystems.
Despite challenging and unpredictable weather conditions that complicated field monitoring, boat operations, and camera trap checks, the team achieved meaningful and measurable results. Volunteers showed resilience, determination, and the courage to step forward—qualities that are essential for protecting nature in a rapidly changing world.
One of the most significant achievements of the program was supporting the removal of an illegal dump in the Cuajiniquil area. This effort was part of a broader collaboration between organizations, volunteers, and public institutions, contributing directly to the restoration of a valuable natural environment.
The importance of this initiative was recognized by the Área de Conservación Guanacaste, which highlighted the critical role of coordinated action and citizen involvement in conservation. The effort was officially featured in their article: 👉 Read here
This achievement demonstrates how volunteering in Costa Rica contributes not only symbolically, but through tangible, measurable conservation outcomes.
Volunteers also played a key role in restoring and improving facilities in Palo Verde National Park, one of Costa Rica’s most important wetland ecosystems. These efforts directly support ongoing research, monitoring, and biodiversity protection.
Every restored structure, every improved facility strengthens the long-term capacity to protect endangered species and preserve fragile ecosystems.
Volunteers became part of conservation efforts on the front lines while exploring some of Costa Rica’s most unique ecosystems—from mangrove forests and tropical coastlines to misty mountain environments. The program also included wildlife observation opportunities, including crocodiles in the Tempisque River and diverse tropical species in their natural habitats.
Volunteering in Costa Rica is more than travel. It is an opportunity to actively contribute to protecting the natural world.
