We have had a year full of work on preventive measures against environmental crime in the Czech Republic.

This effort began during the pandemic, when we began working with Czech Ornithological Society to address the issue of digestion with banned carbofuran.
This is when the so-called Citizens' Patrols Against Poisons in the Landscape were established. In 2024, we built on this concept seamlessly and created the Environmental Crime Prevention Programme, under which we spread awareness of this type of crime, help publicize individual cases, and have our enforcement team go out to individual finds reported to us by the public.
This creates a functional bridge between the law enforcement authorities and the public, which is not experienced enough in reporting such finds and at the moment individual finders usually do not have enough time and expertise to do so.
We took the reporting system to a whole new level in the second half of 2024 when we released a mobile app called Green Crime Reporting, through which finders can contact us for consultation or to report their find.
Therefore, within the framework of Environmental Crime Prevention, we try to spread not only awareness about how to report finds, but also to make the reporting process as easy and efficient as possible for the finders.
Another important development in the field of grasshopper control is the use of the so-called carbofuran rapid tests, which we introduced into our methodology last year.
We are currently the only ones using these rapid tests, together with the CSO, and are thus able to verify the presence of carbofuran in the animal or bait directly at the site of the finding.
This saves a lot of work for the police, because they no longer have to go to everything that is suspicious, but only to the places where we get a positive result from the speed test.
We were introduced to the methodology of proper sampling for the most accurate rapid test by the staff of the Centre for Environmental Forensic Sciences at Charles University.
Pomozte nám s naplňováním našich cílů a s rozvojem naší činnosti, abychom i my mohli významně přispět k dosažení cíle 30x30.
Děkujeme.
In the area of education, we continue with lectures in secondary schools. Some of the most active partner schools include The Security and Law Academy in Brno, where we have been giving lectures on green crime for the third year.
However, the secondary school of commerce in Polička is also newly involved. At the same time, we have started to organize training for nature guards and other state conservationists in areas where carbofuran poisoning is still an issue.
At the end of last year, the first of a series of such trainings took place, specifically at the regional branch of AOPK in Brno. Other trainings will follow gradually.
The year 2024 was indeed a busy one, and much more work awaits us this year. Over the past year we have made a total of 42 public reporting calls and spent a total of 63 days in the field. We have the full results and information from our activities in our next seasonal newsletter, which you can download here
